555 Sport Ride

SR 555 is legendary, but be forewarned that it is not an easy ride. Off-camber corners, school buses, unmarked turns, gravel in corners, animals, agricultural equipment just around that blind turn, etc., are just some of the thrills.

In some spots, the road looks like it goes straight, only the "straight" part turns into a dirt road through a cornfield at the last second; the real road goes merrily off to the right or left.

If you're going too fast you could get a real close look at the cornfield. Our advice: Take it easy, enjoy this roller coaster, but don't get carried away (either metaphorically or literally).

Follow 555 aprox. 75 miles to the junction with US 50 near the Ohio River; take a breather, turn around, and retrace your steps.

Or, you have several options:

  • At SR 37, turn right and return to Lancaster.
  • In the town of Chesterhill, turn right onto SR 377, follow to SR 550, and then continue west to Athens.
  • Don't forget your Ohio map!!
